What can Smart Search do, and how is it different from Keyword Expansion?

Smart Search can help users find as many patents with the same keywords across key patent and trademark offices (PTOs) worldwide. 

Smart Search automatically performs a keyword search — based on the synonyms, related words or terms in different languages — that are equivalent to the original query.

Smart Search is similar to the Keyword Expansion feature available on Patent Search. However, Smart Search is performed on all of the related keywords, whereas Keyword Expansion allows the user to fine-tune their search based on their own criteria.
